Tractor Beam

 Tractor beams are used by the Death Star to pull spaceships and fighters into the landing bay which have been damaged and cant land safely on their own. They are also used by pirate ships and star destroyers to capture enemy ships. Having no safety rails makes it harder for sabeutors to disable the tractor beams. Technicians repair using grabble hooks to work safely.
